Lobster fishing is a huge industry for Western Australia and it's mighty big business to Geraldton and the Mid West. The Geraldton Fishermen's Cooperative is home to around 150 boats which fish for Western Rock Lobsters as far south as Fremantle, north to Shark Bay and west to the Abrolhos Islands.

The Live Lobster Facility where up to 90 tonnes of lobsters can be held at any time with a market value of around 5 million dollars. There are free tours of the facility daily and more than 40,000 visitors have experienced the smell of the sea, the size off the catch and the journey from the processor to the plate.

The live lobsters are sorted into colour and size, offering a choice to buyers in the demanding lobster market. In fact, 99 per cent of the catch is sent to overseas markets.

After sorting, the lobsters are put in holding tanks until they are sold and with very precise travel arrangements, reach their final destinations around the world and replaced live into sea water with a 98 per cent success rate.

The Geraldton Fishermen's Cooperative is owned entirely by WA Fishermen who are proud to provide visitors the chance to step inside the unique world of the western rock lobster.
