HOME in WA is the official television programme appointed to bring you all the latest information on the Year of the Built Environment. What does that mean? Well very simply, the Year of the Built Environment is a Western Australian initiative, "celebrating the buildings, places and structures in which we live, work and play".

This week, as part of our continuing coverage of events on the YBE calendar, David Grant visits the Somerly development at Clarkson in Perth's northern corridor.

In this episode, David talks with John Blaess, State Manager of Urban Pacific, the company developing Somerly in partnership with Landstart, a division of the Department of Housing & Works in WA.

Already, 300 housing lots have been released to the public with a total of 1800 lots due for release gradually over the next 10 years. On average, 30 lots are released each month.

This month's launch of Somerly is recognized as an official event in the Year of the Built Environment, a tribute to the intense planning of parks and recreation areas, community infrastructure including schools, library, shopping precinct and the new Clarkson rail transit station, which is due for completion by September 2004.

Further information on the Year of the Built Environment and its calendar of events is available via the link on the HOME in WA website or telephone 9222 4991.
