The fertile soil and mild climate of the Chittering Valley are perfect for grape growers and at Hartley Estate 35 acres of vines produce top quality grapes for the nearby Western Range winery. Seven more acres will soon be planted and the Estate plans to release the first vintage of its own commercial wine late next year.

On October the eleventh CycleWest will hold the second annual Hartley Estate Chittering Challenge through the hills and roads of this stunning estate.

The Challenge starts with a 1km run, followed by 10km mountain bike ride through the Estate, a 16km bike race through the roads below estate, finishing with a 5km run. Competitors can take on all four legs themselves or you can compete as a team.

Hartley Estate itself covers 243 acres of rolling hills in the Chittering Valley, so the event promises some spectacular views making it a terrific event for spectators too.
