This Weeks Episode of Home in WA

Our regular update on behalf of the Master Builders Association is "Building Ideas" hosted by Richard Repp. This week, we find ACTION on the 2003 Show Home site at Minum Cove, Mosman Park. The builder, Webb & Brown-Neaves, are there to welcome us the the start of building excavation for the luxury swimming pool that is the forerunner to construction of what will be a magnificent home.

Richard also talks with two experts in Energy Efficiency about the impact so far of the new regulations that apply to the building of any new home in Western Australia. James Bertram, a consultant to the MBA, explains the seven major areas of the home that need to be addressed for energy efficiency, before the builder can be sure of gaining Council or Shire approvals.

The President of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors, Vic Etherington, warns that the issue of energy efficiency needs to be taken very seriously by all builders and their clients and that significant delays can be expected as councils clear the backlog of building applications submitted prior to the July 12 deadline.

Builders are reminded that full information on the new regulations, including a CD-ROM with complete explanation, is available through the MBA by contacting the Perth office on 9322 5133.
