This Weeks Episode of Home in WA

RICHARD REPP once again started the new series on behalf of the Master Builders Association with our regular segment we call Building Ideas. He took a look at a few winners in the 22nd consecutive, MBA Housing Excellence Awards in Perth.

He talked to John Young of Young Constructions winner of Best Alterations and Additions for 2002…and what an interesting story it was.

The builder YOUNG CONSTRUCTIONS…John Young actually started as a bricklayer in his family business and that company won several MBA Golden Trowel Awards for quality brickwork.

As a builder, John first entered the Awards in 2001 and won a category Award with his very first entry.

The outside and inside of what was a modest brick & Tile home was remodeled into a superb 4-bed, 2-bath character home.

A central passageway was extended and stairs now lead down to a large new family room, kitchen and dining area.

Timber bi-fold doors lead from the family room to an outdoor alfresco area on the eastern side.

Victorian cornices, a corbelled archway and polished timber floorboards were used to match the character of the original house.

A fibro sleepout and the front verandah were demolished to make way for a double carport and portico entry where gables and timber frieze work are now in keeping with the character of the surrounding houses.

The major winner of the Top Home of the Year Award was Brian Burke Homes.

Brian Burke Homes build upmarket, very high quality homes and are considered leaders in house construction in WA.

Since being established in 1982, the company has won no less than 64 Awards for Excellence in 21 years. A superb record!

For Brian Burke Homes, the Awards carry enormous prestige and are highly sought after among MBA members.
