It was all glitz and glamour at this year’s Master Builders Bankwest Construction Excellence Awards as WA’s most successful builders came together to reward outstanding craftsmanship and building excellence.
Curtin University’s Recreation and Events Centre helped Doric Constructions win Best Public Use Building and also take out the top award at the recent night of nights for the construction industry.
Competition was fierce this year with the total worth of all projects entered exceeding $1.8 billion and the builder that impressed the most was Doric Constructions.

The Curtin Recreation and Events Centre comprises of a large volume sports hall with three multi-purpose sports courts, a state of the art gymnasium, aerobics, reception/café, administration, 450 car bays and a 2,350 seat stadium.

Clad in maintenance free alucobond, the sleek white metallic structure has a full-length covered walkway with a strikingly wide crescent-shaped arch as a signature piece.

The Stadium’s Sports Hall required the installation of some 36 kilometres of internal timber cladding in which Doric skilfully managed a complex offsite fabrication process providing the highest quality result.
Doric Constructions won Best Refurbishment or Renovation for their work on three critical areas of the Burswood’s Entertainment Complex. They also won Best Retail Building for their work on the Rockingham City Shopping Centre.

Other winners on the night include the Southern Gateway Alliance for their work on the new $705 million Perth Bunbury Highway, which is the largest public road infrastructure project ever undertaken in WA.
