A few weeks ago the building and construction industry came together to honor brilliance in construction at the 2009 MBA Bankwest Excellence in construction Awards. Since 1989, the Awards have been recognised by the industry, industry professions and the government, as the hallmark annual event for the commercial, industrial and civil engineering sectors.

This year the award for Overall Best Commercial Project went to Brookfield Multiplex. Their building Bishop See (stage 1) now known as 235 St Georges Terrace, also took out the award for best commercial building over 20 million dollars! This garden office building was completed earlier this year and covers 18, 000 square metres. And if you think you’ve missed out on this fantastic building, don’t fret because Stage 2 is under construction now.

The next award for excellence in energy efficiency went to Diploma Construction for their building the ‘Durack Centre,’ supported by the Sustainable Energy Development Office. Durack 2 is a 7200m2 five-storey commercial building valued at 35 million dollars. Over looking Langley Park, it includes a huge number of features such as a two-storey reception foyer and a proposed wind turbine to the roof for localised power.
Both 235 St Georges Terrace and Durak 2 have achieved excellence in construction and will represent WA in the national Master Builder awards in November. And if you love building and construction then make sure you head down to the Perth CBD to check out these amazing structures or jump online to the Master Builders website for more information.
