The healthy signs of any thriving city are how much construction is taking place. Well … in this city… we’re still doing very nicely.
That growth is supported by the Master Builders Association with their Apprentice of The Year Awards.

The primary objective of the Master Builders Apprentice of the Year Awards is to recognise the best apprentices that are currently working within the building and construction industry.  These apprentices are employed by direct indenture with one employer and also through Group Training partners Skill Hire and WA Group Training Scheme.

This year was the fourth year of presenting the awards which attracted 330 apprentices and their families and employers for a Gala presentation night.  The winner of the 2008 MBA Apprentice of The Year is Jonathon Skipworth, who is presently employed as a carpenter/joiner on Colgan Industries re-development site in Northbridge.

Jonathon will proudly represent Western Australia at the Master Builders Australia National Apprentice of the Year Awards to be presented in Canberra.

The MBA has just recently published a brochure on how to go about employing apprentices. It is available on line or from The MBA and looks into the needs and requirements for both the employer and employee, and the many benefits associated with welcoming any companies next award winning team member.

In an age where skilled labor shortages make it difficult to obtain high quality trades people, let alone train them, the MBA is certainly doing its part.
