The Wollemi™ Pine is one of the world's oldest and rarest plants dating back to the time of the dinosaurs.  In fact, the oldest known fossil of the Wollemi Pine dates back 90 million years.  Less than 100 adult trees are known to exist in the wild and as part of the conservation of the species, the Wollemi Pine has now been cultivated and has just been released for sale to the public.

The Wollemi is a majestic conifer with attractive, unusual dark green foliage and bubbly bark.  It can sprout multiple trunks and grows to about 20metres in a garden so it’s an ideal feature tree in the home garden or in a commercial or Park setting.

The Wollemi is fast growing in light, favours acid soils, and can handle temperatures from - 5 to 45°C, so it really can grow anywhere in Australia.  It’s also proving robust under a patio or even as an indoor plant so it’s very versatile.

Not only is the Wollemi Pine a piece of living pre-history, it can also be used to continue another very old tree tradition –Horticulturalists are hailing the Wollemi as the perfect Christmas Tree and so are the kids.

It has a natural conical shape, strong, flexible leaves that can hold decorations well and a 1.5-2 metre tree can easily survive in a pot under the patio or impartial shade.  It doesn’t drop its leaves either, so you won’t be finding any extra mess under the Christmas tree!

You can assist in the conservation effort by growing your own Wollemi™ Pine and becoming part of one of the most dramatic comebacks in natural history.  The Wollemi Pine is available from Melville Nursery in Carmel and Fraser’s Garden Centre, Canning Vale.
