The building industry in WA is leading the way in addressing the shortage of widespread shortage of skilled workers, with a number of initiatives aimed at attracting young people to trade apprenticeships as a career option of first-choice

The Building and Construction Industry Training Fund, known as the BCITF, has introduced a range of new initiatives to encourage school students to pursue a career in building and construction.
A program called Try-A-Trade has been introduced by the BCITF, in conjunction with a number of Registered Training Organisations like TAFEWA, to give young people a first-hand insight into some of the building trades
The BCITF funds school holiday Try-A-Trade courses in metropolitan and regional areas. These one to five day courses give students practical experience in trades including bricklaying, surveying and ceramic  tiling, working with lecturers from Challenger TAFE at the Peel Campus.

The Try-A-Trade program is just one initiative of the BCITF in encouraging our young people to consider a career in the building and construction industry as a very exciting first-choice opportunity
