The face of Geraldton and the dynamic Mid West of Western Australia has changed dramatically over recent years.

Infrastructure projects in the port city such as the southern by-pass road system; deepening of the port itself to allow increased access the shipping for iron ore export as well as other primary produce; the removal of the goods rail from the beachfront and beautification of the shoreline; the general upgrade of public amenities; and a massive increase in building and development have all added significantly to the appeal and efficiency of Geraldton and its environs.

Just as important of course, is the network of smaller support projects that really make a community. The philosophy of the administration at City of Geraldton is that, especially with the increase in fuel costs, the City should offer its residents every possible facility without the need to travel beyond to enable them to enjoy a complete lifestyle

Significant examples of those facilities include the Aquarena aquatic complex, the Queens Park Theatre and amphitheatre and the regional Art Gallery.

Another major initiative is the plan to amalgamate the City of Geraldton with the neighbouring Shire if Greenough so that services, administration and financial structures are brought under the one facility
