On the show we continued to look at the 2006 Master Builders Association 'Excellence in Construction Awards'.
The Value of construction Projects entered this year from all over Western Australia equates to about $550 million. Award Categories include:

  • Commercial/industrial buildings

  • restoration, renovation and refurbishment projects

  • civil engineering structures

  • multi unit dwellings over $2m

  • state government buildings

  • specialist contractor awards

....and this story took the time to acknowledge the overall winner of the awards, a enormous undertaking by Doric Constructions plus a most interesting Project, sponsored by the Department Of Housing and Works - "The Best Regional Winner" - built by Crothers Construction Pty Ltd in Denham, Shark Bay. It was the "Shark Bay World Heritage Interpretive Centre", and its not until you stop and think about the logistical problems associated with such a project in such a location that you realize the expertise that goes into a project such as this. Getting the trades to the town (and housing them, the trades people!), getting the raw materials needed for concrete, for instance, (all concrete panels were poured and polished onsite), working with extreme weather conditions, the list goes on. The Master Builders Association hope that for anyone that visits this significant building now or in the future, you’ll stop and appreciate the great work done by CROTHERS Construction Pty Ltd on this project.
The Overall Winner of the 'Excellence in Construction Awards' was another enormous project that is a credit to the Builders - 'Doric Constructions (Australia) Pty Ltd'.
One can only be impressed by the massive size of the project, combining 670m2 of Office, 12,600m2 factory and 59,000m2 of Hardstand on a 13 hectare site.
An integrated processing factory/transport and logistic operation for 'BlueScope Steel'. Doric was responsible for design and construction and worked extensively with the clients in achieving their requirements for the project. This entailed the incorporation of 3 railway lines feeding into the main rail network as well as structural design criteria for the cranes needed to deal with the huge weights involved with handling coiled steel.
Doric Constructions (Australia) Pty Ltd successfully delivered an environmentally responsible project by observing all relevant environmental laws, industrial codes of practice and local authority requirements.
Congratulations to all Winning Builders and especially the 'Overall Winner' - Doric Constructions (Australia) Pty Ltd who will now represent Western Australia at the Master Builders Association, National Awards.
