The Fremantle Cold Stores Complex is an area of land that the Department of Housing and Works purchased in 1990 and have developed into 101 new Homeswest units.

This site is where the original Fremantle Cold Stores were situated where perishable goods from the docks were stored at the turn of last century.

Nearly $14 million was spent to transform the massive Fremantle Cold Stores site into a showcase precinct, incorporating ideas from successful group housing developments around the world.

In all, there are 59 aged persons units, 32 family town houses and 10 single bedroom units making up the total of 101 units designed by Spowers Architects. All the units have been allocated to people that have been on the waiting list for many years.
